It’s been almost five years since Stranger Things first premiered on Netflix and we were introduced to Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and, of course, Eleven. Of course, the numerous other characters introduced over the course of three seasons have made the show an instant favorite and have fans clamoring for a fourth season nearly two years after the premiere of the third in 2019.
One of the strengths of the show has been the many different story arcs and pairings of characters throughout each season. Some more serious, others more for comedic value. However, according to one cast member, one of the more favorite pairings in the show was more of a happy accident than anything.

Ep 2: Top 10 Married With Children Episodes

“With me and Steve pairing up, that was kind of by accident, that was a fan favorite for sure. But that was kind of an accident,” said Dustin Matarazzo (Dustin) in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “That was pretty much like, there were two characters that needed to go to the same place and they were going through pretty similar dilemmas at the time. They were both dealing with girl trouble and they basically looked at each other and were like, all right, might as well. And then they become best buds, and they let it play out. And that wouldn’t have happened, that became clear throughout the rest of season 2. And us even being paired up halfway through that season was a complete accident.”
Indeed, the show may be a little different without the hilarious dynamic between Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin (Dustin Matarazzo) who came together as unlikely partners in season two and by season three, spent the majority of the season together. Much to the fans’ delight.
Matarazzo also confirmed that they are indeed working on the fourth season, although the global pandemic has slowed production considerably. As mentioned before, the third season premiere almost two years ago on July 4th, 2019. As for a potential Dustin-Steve spinoff?
“I think a Dustin-Steve spinoff would be good if it were in, like, a weird niche format. Like, they didn’t do a full show of it.”
