The Matrix Resurrections brings us back into the Matrix.
For the first time since 2003, we’re returning to the Matrix. The first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections dropped on Thursday, giving us a look at an older Neo. Check out the trailer below.
Keanu Reeves returns as Neo, but he’s not alone in returning to the franchise. Carrie-Ann Moss is back as Trinity, even though she doesn’t recognize Neo in the trailer. Jada Pinkett Smith will return as Niobe, and Lambert Wilson returns as The Merovingian. Lana Wachowski also returns to direct without sister Lilly. The pair wrote and directed all three Matrix films in the series thus far.
Joining the cast are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathon Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, and more. Abdul-Mateen II seems to have a large role, appearing frequently in the trailer and as a sparring partner for Neo. It is rumored his role will be a young Morpheus, played in previous films by Lawrence Fishburne.
The Matrix Resurrections releases December 22, 2021.
