The Super Mario Bros cast has been announced. Get your overalls ready!
On Thursday, Illumination and Nintendo announced the voice cast for their new Super Mario Bros movie. The movie doesn’t release until 2022, but the cast has Nintendo and animation fans excited right now.
Taking on the role of everyone’s favorite princess-saving plumber is Chris Pratt. The Guardians of the Galaxy star will voice Mario, while It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Charlie Day will voice his brother Luigi. Emmy-nominated Anya Taylor-Joy will voice Princess Peach, who will most likely be captured by Jack Black’s Bowser.
Also in the cast is Seth Rogen voicing Donkey Kong and Keegan-Michael Key voicing Toad. Kevin Michael Richardson, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Charles Martinet round out the cast for a film that should be a big draw next holiday season.
Reception to Pratt’s casting as Mario has been mixed online. Some are excited to see him get a chance, while others would’ve preferred a seasoned voice actor to take on such an iconic voice. Of course, the internet had memes too.
He’s got a year to get the voice nailed down. Super Mario Bros comes to theatres on December 21, 2022.
