The saga known as “Bendergate” is officially over.
Futurama voice actor, John DiMaggio has announced his return to the franchise which is set for a comeback on the Hulu streaming service in 2023.
“I’M BACK, BABY! So damn grateful for the love and support of fans and colleagues alike during this whole time (especially my wife, Kate), and I cannot wait to get back to work with my ‘Futurama’ family,” DiMaggio said in a statement. “#Bendergate is officially over, so put it on the back of a shelf behind Xmas decorations, or maybe in that kitchen drawer with all of the other crap you put in there like old unusable crazy glue, or maybe even put it in a jar you save farts in. Whatever floats your boat, I don’t care, you get the picture. I’M BACK, BABY! BITE MY SHINY METAL ASS!”

When the Futurama revival was announced, the entire original cast had signed on for its return… except DiMaggio. Despite the majority of the cast returning, it just didn’t seem right that one of the more popular characters, Bender would either be voiced by someone else or nonexistent altogether. DiMaggio’s beef with the return was that he felt that the cast was being underpaid for their work.

DiMaggio drew support from cast members as well as creator Matt Groening and executive producer, David Cohen. However, the fan support made it clear that any attempt to bring back Futurama without DiMaggio was a huge mistake and could doom the return.
Futurama will return in 2023 with 20 episodes.
